Farmscape for June 7, 2011   (Episode 3594)

Organizers of World Pork Expo in Des Moines expect nearly 20 thousand pork producers and industry professionals the attend this year's edition of the annual event.

The 2011 edition of World Pork Expo kicks off tomorrow in Des Moines, Iowa.

The three day event, which features a trade show, convention and swine show, brings together swine producers and pork industry equipment and service providers from around the world and this year's focus will be on helping producers improve profitability.

Doug Fricke, the director of trade show marketing with the National Pork Producers Council, reports more than 400 companies have registered for the trade show and will occupy over one thousand booth spaces.

Clip-Doug Fricke-National Pork Producers Council:
From the standpoint of who's represented, we've got exhibitors from all over the world who exhibit at the show.

Naturally they're showing what is new to their company to producers from all over the world.

We've got producers from all parts of North America, South America, Asia, Europe who attend the show on an annual basis just to get the latest and the greatest in pork production from technology to equipment to services to how to work with employees.

A lot of the things that producers can expect to see is what new technology, what new management practices are out there, things that they can do on their operations to continue to be profitable in the years to come and also to look at other things that they can do throughout their operation that will help them.

Fricke says some of the key topics that will be discussed this year will include the economic outlook, concerns related to increased feed costs and world trade.

For a full listing of exhibits and seminars Fricke encourages people to visit the World Pork Expo web site at worldpork.org.
