Pork Academy to Highlight World Pork Expo
Cindy Cunningham - National Pork Board

Farmscape for June 7, 2017

Pork producers attending World Pork Expo 2017 will have the opportunity to learn more about the various programs funded through the U.S. pork industry's Pork Checkoff.
The 2017 edition of World Pork Expo is slated for today, tomorrow and Friday at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.
Cindy Cunningham, the Assistant Vice-President Communications with the National Pork Board, says producers will be able to participate in Pork Academy, either on site or over the internet.

Clip-Cindy Cunningham-National Pork Board:
The Pork Checkoff is a tool that our producers have in the United States to help with research, promotion and education.
Each and every pig that is marketed in the United States and all pork and pork products that are imported into the United States pay into a fund called the Pork Checkoff and the Pork Checkoff does research, promotion and education, helping our producers promote their products as well as helping our producers access ways to raise pigs better but also to provide the safest and most wholesome food supply through pork.
Pork producers who are attending World Pork Expo and even those who don't have the opportunity to join us for World Pork Expo, through the web, will have the opportunity to participate in sessions called Pork Academy sessions.
Some of the topics that we'll be looking at include the Pork Quality Initiative, understanding the Veterinary Feed Directive which went into application January 1 here in the United States, talking about a secure pork supply implementation, which is a business continuity plan should our producers face a foreign animal disease as well as understanding the U.S. export market and learning more about things that producers need on their farms through being able to tell their story through social media.

Cunningham stresses producers care each and every day for the pigs on their farms, the people who work on their farms, the environment and the communities around those farms.
