Canada's Minister of Agriculture says programs designed to strengthen the public's trust in agriculture will be among the new priorities as the sector transitions to next Agricultural Policy Framework.
The federal Agriculture Minister, joined by farmers, ranchers, food processors, industry leaders and youth, observed Agriculture Day in Canada in Ottawa, where he outlined details of new Canadian Agricultural Partnership which will come into effect April 1.
Lawrence MacAulay says agriculture is an industry that has earned and deserves the trust of Canadians.

Clip-Lawrence MacAulay-Agriculture Minister Canada:
According to a survey commissioned by my department 91 percent of the people have indicated truly they trust our farmers and ranchers.
In that area it's so important and anybody involved in export in this country understands how important trust is, understand how important CFIA is, understand how important the regulatory process is.
It's so important that, when you speak to countries around the world, that they know if the Maple Leaf is there and is certified by Canada that it's safe to eat.
That's a good start when you're trying to sell products around the world and, in fact, we're there and it's our job that we make sure we keep CFIA right on the cutting edge so that it's there in order to help promote our products.
The partnership will have the first public framework to recognize public trust as a priority in agriculture.
Some of our programs will help the industry develop tools and resources to support public trust, meet demands of today's customers.
They will help farmers tell Canadians about the great things they doing to grow safe high quality food, care for the animals and safeguard our environment.

MacAulay says, for example, an organization could receive funding to increase agricultural awareness to the public.
