Banff Pork Seminar Kicks Off Tuesday
Ashley Steeple - Banff Pork Seminar

Farmscape for January 3, 2019

Delegates from around the world will gather in Alberta next week for the 2019 Banff Pork Seminar.
The 2019 Banff Pork Seminar kicks of Tuesday at the Banff Springs Hotel.
Banff Pork Seminar Coordinator Ashley Steeple says the seminar focuses on topics of interest to all segments of the pork sector and offers a great opportunity for networking.

Clip-Ashley Steeple-Banff Pork Seminar:
The Banff Pork Seminar has been running since 1972.
It's been held in Banff for the entire time, except for the first couple of years and it's a technology transfer meeting for everybody in the pork industry including all kinds of sectors from producers to industry, governments and researchers as well.
The theme for this year is "Change, Challenge and Opportunity."
The theme was chosen based on how the industry outlooks have looked this year.
There's been a lot of change in terms of trade as well as some disease and what kind of opportunities that leaves for the pork industry.
We have some special keynote speakers speaking directly on those items.
We have Egan Brockhoff talking on the African Swine Fever, we have Joseph Kerns talking on tariff and trade and we have David Hughes talking on protein and where the protein sector is going.
One of our key breakout sessions this year will probably be our big data and technology section.
It seems to be a hit with delegates who are interested in learning new innovations and what's up and coming in the pork industry.
As well as always our feed efficiency and nutrition are a big hit with our delegates.

Steeple says 680 delegates from across mostly Canada and the U.S. and from Europe, Australia, South America and China have registered so far representing all segments of the pork sector.
She notes seminar registration is still open on line at banffpork.ca and questions can be directed to pork@ualberta.ca.
